| This educational kit is an introduction to fiber optic communications. This kit provides the builder with hands-on experience constructing basic fiber optic receivers, transmitters, and cable interfaces, not unlike those used by telephone companies. You will learn how and why light can be "captured" and transmitted by lengths of optical fiber. With the basic information you gain, you can go on to more sophisticated discussions and demonstrations of fiber optics in action. An excellent 26 page detailed booklet contains a parts list; complete assembly instructions; some technical discussions about why everything works as it does; and a glossary of terms used. Kit contains all the components for buildingfiber optic data link including LED, detector, fiber optic connectors, interface electronics and 3.28 feet of fiber optic cable. The transmitter and receiver board sizes are about 1 1/2" by 2" inches. Ideal kit for the beginner, hobbyist or student of fiber optics. This fiber optic link can be extended up to about 52 feet, making it useful for short distance optical isolation applications, constructing RS232 interfaces and science fair projects. A 5 volt DC power supply is required. This kit requires soldering and assembly. Kit contains over 10 components, two screened PC boards, and schematic. Order No. 80-405. In Stock - Can Ship Today! |
